Our Mission
The mission of Crossroads is to reach the nations by reaching internationals residing in Singapore.
Our Vision
The vision of Crossroads is to lead people, especially internationals, into a vital relationship with Jesus Christ as disciples who can transform their unique spheres of influence (2 Tim. 2:2). In particular, Crossroads focuses primarily, but not exclusively, on reaching the English-speaking community.
Our Values
We worship near Singapore’s PIE (Pan-Island Expressway). This major east-west artery links the entire island as an international hub. At Crossroads, we also have our own "PIE":
• Participatory
• International
• Expository
• Participatory
Since our mostly professional-level expatriates love interaction, we sometimes use small groups within the church service itself for prayer, sharing, and applying the teaching. Some people don’t like this level of participation, preferring anonymity instead. If this describes you, we may not be the church for you, but come and give us a try anyway! Let’s connect with both God and others.
Our 4:00-5:30 PM service evidences an informal, accepting atmosphere, led by the Spirit. You would be the only one with a tie on but not the only one in shorts.
• International
Singaporean churches naturally function around the Singapore work and education calendar. However, at Crossroads, we design the calendar around expatriate schedules. For example, youth mission trips fall within the international school breaks rather than those of the local schools.
So we design our style, calendar, and values to reach internationals living in Singapore. Singaporeans may attend and even become members, but Crossroads has a shared, godly, leadership from other nations, especially the USA (30%), UK, and the Netherlands. Others at our services also come from Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Our many nations in the body and our missionary leadership have given us a mission heart from the start. We invest at least 20% of our offerings outside of Singapore. The church supports short-term individuals from the body ministering in Mongolia, India, Philippines, and other nations. Long-term missions efforts include these:
Central Asia: Chas & Claudia Hahn, church planting, Antioch Ministries International
Mongolia & China: Budmaa Mongol, Evangelism Explosion Director for Mongolia (evangelism training)
Haiti: Jeff Palmer, CEO, Baptist Global Response (disaster relief) also helps meet practical needs in China, Chile, and other areas responding to natural disasters
India: Babychen Varghese, NPact Director for India (pastoral training in the unreached northwest states and relief for the persecuted church) -- a ministry associated with BEE World (Biblical Education by Extension)
Vietnam: Thy Le Nguyen Huyen, church planting, leadership development, and community projects in Vietnam
• Expository
Messages each Sunday typically expound one text of the Bible in an in-depth manner. The preaching focus for 2007-2008 was on 1 Corinthians, Habakkuk, and Ephesians. We believe this kind of spiritual diet enables more character growth than disconnected topical messages. Messages for 2009 focused on Nehemiah, Romans, and Jonah. In 2010 we are preaching through Genesis and John.
Our pastor-teacher is a visual learner, so Rick uses PowerPoint extensively in Sunday messages. This PPT is uploaded at this link. The goal is to be both interesting and understandable to teenagers as well as to adults. Kids up to grade 5 and youth in grades 6-12 leave for their own classes halfway through the service.
